Cold and seemingly emotionless are the best ways to describe Jonah. The loss of his parents to military weapons and the loss of his friend Malka to a landmine caused him to largely shut himself off from the world. His expression is almost always flat or pulled into a slight frown, and he generally seems disinterested in the goings on around him, at least in regards to anything not related to his job of protecting Koko. The reality is that he is far from disinterested in the things around him, however. Many of the members of Koko’s team teach him various subjects you’d find in grade school (though he’s not a fan of math and science), and he does often seem to be interested in the things that his teammates have to tell him, even if he might not always be happy with them.

That said, while he seems emotionless, he is far from it. Koko seems to be very good at getting a reaction out of Jonah that is something other than his usually robotic look, no matter what emotion it happens to be. He is more often confused by her than anything, however, and he does feel like he’s being fooled by her when she talks to him, but it seems to be more of a deception that causes him to forget that she is an arms dealer. If this troubles him any, he has yet to give any indication that it does.

Speaking of Koko, Jonah is incredibly dedicated to his job as her personal bodyguard. It initially seems that it’s simply because that is his job, but he does quickly grow to (quietly) like the other members of Koko’s team. He is still closest to Koko in the end, though part of that is because of how she tends to hang off of him on a regular basis. This tends to get on his nerves, and he has chastised her for it, as her clinging to him makes it that much harder for him to protect her.

The most interesting quirk Jonah possesses is that he absolutely hates weapons. The only things he hates more than weapons are the people that use them and sell them. This puts him in an odd position with Koko in the end, but as mentioned before, he is able to get along with her, largely because she is so different from what he expected all arms dealers to be like. His first example seems to have been Koko’s brother, Kasper, who is also an arms dealer. Kasper is indirectly the reason Jonah’s life went to hell, and Jonah readily places all the blame onto Kasper and wants nothing more than to see the man dead.

Ironically, cruelly so, Jonah is an absolute prodigy with weapons. A child soldier that proved himself in the mountains of Western Asia, Jonah has skills that would put career soldiers to shame. His skill is such that he’s capable of a headshot to a moving vehicle from a moving vehicle, amongst other feats. He is also very tactically astute, having been able to deduce that a group of enemy soldiers had no mountain combat experience in short order and dispensing a tactic to the rest of the team that allowed them to easily win the battle. His combat experience does tend to make him reckless at times, and he’s put his life at risk more than once, much to the chagrin of Lehm (Koko’s second in command) on one occasion. Most frighteningly, he has shown himself capable of wiping out virtually an entire base full of soldiers just so he could kill one man for revenge.

In the end, Jonah is a myriad of contradictions. A boy that hates weapons but wields them with extreme skill. A kind soul (by Koko’s measure) that kills to earn his keep.

[The video kicks in, showing a young, tanned skinned boy with red eyes and sporting a small frown, manipulating various screens via the bracelet’s display. He might be slightly confused about how it all works, since he apparently keeps poking back and froth between various windows on the display.]

I think Koko’s laptop would be easier to use than this.

[He’s putting a hand completely through the holographic display.]

At least that had a real keyboard. And screen. This is like one of those touch phones I saw some people in Dubai using. Kinda. But it’s still kinda cool, in its own way. You don’t seem to have any limit to what you can do while you’re using this thing, though.

[He waves a hand in front of the display, shoving windows aside. Jonah does know he’s talking to people, but he doesn’t seem to care too much. They weren’t Koko or his fellow bodyguards, so why say anything of value? Well, that wasn't true, he had one legitimate question.]

What can I do for work, here? I’m not really cut out for a lot of jobs, but… If someone needs a bodyguard, I can do that.

Before he left his room, Jonah made a point of checking the pistol he had tucked in the cargo pocket of his shorts. A full mag, a round in the chamber, and the safety was on. Everything seemed to be in working order and he was ready in case something were to happen. He’d need to get a cleaning kit for the weapon, though. And find a place to buy ammo. This meant he’d have to find a market, and probably not a legal one, since there was no way a regular shop would sell those things to a kid like him. Jonah shrugged. He’d worry about that later, for now he needed to explore.

Stuffing the pistol back in his pocket, he clipped his bracelet onto his wrist and stepped outside, memorizing his room number before he wandered out of the building and into the streets. It was strange, being on his own again, and completely so at that. Even when he’d been tailing Valmet recently, he’d know that she was ahead of him and Koko and the group were behind him. Here? They weren’t anywhere to be found. Tilting his head skyward, Jonah stared into its expanse. This place was already strange, but he couldn’t help but wonder how much stranger it would get.

He’d been told he’d been given a power, by that strange maid. Speed, was it? He figured he might as well try it out. Jonah’s gaze fell to his feet, and he furrowed his brow slightly. Running and thinking about going really fast seemed to be the most likely way to get his power to work, so he’d go with that. He started off in a jog, quickly picking up speed as he focused solely on going faster. He almost didn’t realize just how fast he was going, as the world whipped by him at breakneck speed. His eyes went wide with surprise for a moment, and a grin began spreading across his face. Soon enough, it was followed by excited laughter as he sprinted along without a care in the world.
